BOOK
Countries have faced political, social, and economic problems, finding a solution is never straightforward; this book examines how countries with problems have overcome and tackled challenges and found solutions to fix them.
The author begins with an overarching geopolitical view of the state of the world and the problems that exist ranging from poverty, immigration, extremism, war, inequality, resources, and more. The book then analyses the state of economies in different countries that vary in size, GDP, geography, resources, etc. It explores how they have approached problems and the steps taken to overcome and find fixes.
The problems and solutions explored are all different. Rwanda, for instance, is a country that faced war and genocide and found stability and change through reconciliation. Canada views immigration as an integral part of strengthening its economy. Botswana a primary producer of diamonds in the world has realized that its economy can't completely rely on its natural resources and invests in other assets. South Korea transformed its economy through the development of its manufacturing base. These examples along with others look at the initiatives and methods taken through strategy, reform, policy implementation, and governance.
Problem-solving is at the heart of this book; the theme of The Fix is that "understanding the problems in depth is also the first step toward understanding their solutions."
